Brad Shreve didn't set out to be a novelist. As a teenager, he imagined a future as an artist, inspired by political satire and comic strips like Doonesbury. While experimenting with creating his own comics, he discovered writing the stories interested him more than drawing the pictures.
Writers such as Lawrence Block, Sue Grafton, Gregory McDonald, and Robert B. Parker showed him that crime novels could be about people as much as crimes. Their influence inspired him to write mysteries.
When disability ended his corporate career, writing became more than something he wanted to do someday. It became what he did. He published his first novel in 2019, introducing Los Angeles private investigator Mitch O'Reilly. The books combine classic noir influences with contemporary settings, but the focus has always been on the characters and the choices they make when there isn't an easy answer.
Brad also co-hosts the Going Hollywood podcast, where he and his co-host discuss classic films, Hollywood history, and the stories behind the movies.
Today, Brad lives with his husband on Spain's Mediterranean coast, where he writes, records podcasts, and occasionally gets distracted by the view.
